Kitchari, also known as khichadi and khichdi, resets your digestion, calms your nervous system and is the food you eat on an Ayurvedic cleanse. It’s incredibly nutritious and comforting, while also gently cleansing. This nourishing, soothing food is gluten free and easily vegan by replacing the ghee with coconut oil – it’s the food that supported my digestive issues to heal.

As well as being a gentle, nourishing, healing food for cleansing, and eaten at those times when you or those around you are feeling the need for nurture and nourishment; kitchari can also be served with a variety of spices, toppings and accompaniments alongside. Below are some ideas to get you started – if you’re doing a cleanse you want to keep it simple.
