It’s been said before but we are what we digest!
There are lots of different digestive complaints identified that people suffer from, including: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), and Intestinal Permeability (Leaky Gut). All of these are linked to chronic inflammation and compromise our immune system which leaves us susceptible to todays lifestyle diseases such as: cancer, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, obesity and diabetes, auto-immune disease, asthma, autism disorder spectrum, and chronic fatigue syndrome – our digestion impacts our mental and emotional health as well as our physical body.
Ayurveda lays out a clear pathway for creating your own preventative healthcare plan, and reversing the effects of disease in many instances, through food and lifestyle choices. At the centre of the Ayurvedic approach to health are recommendations for keeping your digestion strong.
The “Your Peaceful Belly” book explains this in detail, taking into account that there is no one approach for all people. You need to understand your particular nature and live in balance with that, or create a plan that will bring you back into balance with your nature (your constitution) in a way that is appropriate for your life.
You can read what worked for me here. This approach may work for you too. It all depends on your symptoms, level of health, constitutional type and life context. Don’t worry if you think the approach I took wouldn’t work for you, this approach can be adapted to your life conditions once you understand how. And it isn’t hard to learn. The book explains everything you need to know in a simple way with case studies.
